Home_Center_Can We Find You_helpIs your home or business properly numbered?

When seconds count, it is imperative that your house be easily identifiable for first responders. Don’t assume emergency personnel will rapidly and correctly locate a poorly identified building based upon their familiarity with the area. Numbering sequences vary. Darkness and precipitation impair visibility. And first responders might be from an outside agency providing assistance when Township crews are committed elsewhere.

WE CAN HELP!

Lisburn Community Fire Company sells vertical and horizontal 6” by 18” reflective address signs in blue or green with 4” white reflective numbers for only $20. Order with this form now.

Here are some important guidelines to remember when addressing your home or business:

  • Install address numbers beside or above the main entrance door if possible. Don’t install on the door because it won’t be visible when the door is open. Consider the street view from all angles in all seasons when choosing the location.
  • If the building is more than 50 feet from the street, increase number size accordingly, or install an address post near the street.
  • Numbers installed on an address post or mailbox near the street must be readable from both directions of travel. Make sure the numbers are high enough off the ground that they won’t be obscured by snow or vegetation (3 feet minimum).
  • Before installing a mailbox or address post near the street, use the PA One Call System to locate underground utilities. Dial 811 or 1-800-242-1776.

All occupied buildings are required to be identified by the street address assigned by the Township, posted in a manner that makes them clearly readable from the street. Compliance with applicable rules provides emergency responders the ability to quickly locate a building when urgent assistance is needed. Posting an easy-to-locate and easy-to-read address also provides a convenience for visitors and delivery personnel.

State building code and a variety of local ordinances mandate numbering of buildings, and provide penalties for noncompliance. The reasons for properly posting your street address, however, make voluntary compliance a priority, and enforcement unnecessary.
