Lisburn Community Fire Company Apologizes to Same-Sex Couple

The Fire Company does not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation – all are welcome to use any of our facilities.

Lisburn – The Lisburn Community Fire Company apologized to Julie Pilger and Melanie Kirk for the actions of a volunteer who made them feel unwelcome to hold their wedding at the Fire Company social hall.

“We deeply regret this incident and any hurt our volunteer may have caused to Julie and Melanie,” said Mike Grimes, Director. “Our volunteer’s views on same sex marriage do not reflect the feelings or the position of the Lisburn Community Fire Company. We do not condone intolerance or discrimination. Our facilities are available for weddings to both heterosexual and same sex couples. We are community supported and we in turn support all members of our community.”
