Block Shoot, a Lisburn tradition for more than a half a century, begins a new year on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016 at Lisburn Community Fire Company.

“…One at a time, the people take turns shooting their shotguns out a window of the firehouse at one of the tiny targets. This is done in rounds. Everyone gets their own target. If you shoot closest to the center of your target in a round, you win….”

At 7:00 p.m. every Wednesday night from October through March – with a December deer season hiatus – local shooters flock to the Fire Hall. The kitchen opens at 6:00 p.m., and sells hamburgers, hot dogs, a variety of sausages, soda, water, chips, and, occasionally, homemade desserts. Coffee is free.

Shooters use 12-gauge shotguns, and LCFC supplies the shells. Personal shells are not permitted.

Twenty-gauge shells are available for younger shooters, but anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Scopes are permitted. Chokes may be used.

Block Shoot consists of five rounds for $10.00. Additional rounds may be purchased. The number of rounds purchased will determine if a third or fourth round is shot.

The block house volunteer conducts the judging, and may receive the coordinator’s help on questionable calls.

Each evening’s first four rounds are shot for meat prizes. The final round is shot for a monetary reward. Prizes are awarded at the end of the Shoot. Winners may choose a prize when their name is called.

First, second, and Most Shot prizes are always awarded. In addition, if all blocks are sold, a money board is available with one $25 winner. The meat board usually contains two prizes, and the door prize is usually a meat prize.

Also, 50/50 tickets are sold. The person with the winning ticket receives half the 50/50 ticket proceeds.
