Many thanks to local media for spotlighting the annual Lisburn Community Fire Company’s Olde Time Festival, and helping to spread our message.

The Sentinel’s Joshua Vaughn wrote an article earlier this week highlighting one of the event’s draws as well as why so many of our fabulous LCFC volunteers return every year to lend a hand:

“It’s the food that’s the real draw,” Kline said, explaining that the home-cooked food made by the fire company was his favorite part of the yearly festival.

The fire company has hosted the festival for 61 years, and it is the company’s largest fundraiser. All of the proceeds from the festival go to the Lisburn Community Fire Company.

Friend of the Fire Company Alison Dougherty wrote for PennLive/The Patriot-News how she’s always hoped to show the Festival to her mother:

When my mother visits we go here, we go there, we buy this, we consider returning that and by the time she leaves I’m wet-rag exhausted. The one place I’ve always wanted to take my mother, but her visits never seem to coincide with the event, is the Lisburn Community Fire Company’s annual Old Time Festival.

This year she’s missing it by two days – ride night is August 6, the full event is August 7-9. I know my mother would love the festival. First, there’s free gospel music. Mother, a professional musician, loves gospel. I don’t think she’d ride any of the rides, Mother is in her 70s, but I know she’d get a charge out of the nightly tractor parade.

I would tell my mother the fire company peels and cooks almost two tons of potatoes to make french fries during the event. My mother would be impressed and definitely want some of those. I’d tell her they cook mountains of chicken for soup, sandwiches and barbecue chicken. She’d want some of that, too.

While we hope Alison’s mom gets to enjoy Festival next year, you don’t have to wait. The Pavilion opens at 4 p.m., and serves well into the night. Expect the outside fry stand to begin serving shortly after 5 p.m., and entertainment by 2nd Chance Band to begin at 6 p.m.
